[He waits with his eyes locked on the forest edge. It's been months since he saw anyone who knows him personally. The fact it's Keith makes it tempting to race into the forest to track him down.
They'd end up missing each other if he did. He busies himself with setting up a small camp fire. Since he'd arrived, he'd changed back into the tan flight jacket, jeans, and a white T-shirt he'd worn in Shehui. It had felt weird being armor after months without it. He stirs the fire again and watches the trees.]
[Well Keith will do the running for Shiro anyway. Because the realization that Shiro is here has kind of changed everything. Like at first it was personal, but now it's personal that they've been dragged here to play this Astoria's games.
But it's also just... been a long time since he's seen Shiro in person at all. So there's that too. And he's too relieved to worry about any of that tension at least.]
It's not long before he breaks the tree line and the temple comes into sight. He's disengaged the mask, but he's still in full Blade uniform, hood up, sword strapped through its holster (annoyingly not responding to his attempts to turn it back to its knife form). He catches sight of the small fire and the man beside it and something in him eases.] Shiro... you really are here. [Not some weird trick.]
Keith...you're real. [He climbs to his feet and closes the distance between them. It doesn't matter Keith looks shades older and isn't wearing Paladin armor. They can figure that out and talk about anything else in a moment.
He will pull him into a tight hug if he's allowed to. Months of frustration and being alone away from the team without a way to see if they're alright or a way back, drain out of him. For now. It will never truly leave him.] When did you get here? Do you remember?
[He pushes his chair back and collects his journal when he decides it's late enough he should get some sleep. Conversations have died down and the fire burns low in the fireplace. Shiro stores his things and pays for the one drink he'd had, leaving it on the bar as he scans about for Keith.
He wants to make sure he's alright and see what he's up to in case he intends to stay up longer. Their talk earlier had slightly upped his concerns and put some to rest.
Best thing he can do right now is keep communication flowing.]
[Keith... is wandering. Meandering? It's difficult to know what to call it. If nothing else, the boy is usually sure on his feet and aware of himself in relation to everyone and everything around him, secure in his proprioception. Tonight? Less so. A little wobble, a step that hesitates. It doesn't immediately scream drunk but it's a bit off.
The fact that he's definitely chattier than usual, that he's breaking off a conversation with a stranger with a laugh is probably the stranger part, and he turns, gaze swinging over the room. Alcohol is funny. Definitely funny.
He catches sight of Shiro at that moment, which has to be obvious because he's calling from straight across the room.] Shiiiiii...ro.
[Any of Keith's own concerns after their conversation earlier, of what is and isn't being said between them, have been forgotten, temporarily washed away by liquor.]
[He stares at him. Keith isn't really the friendly sort. Not...well that's unfair, he can be friendly but, not Lance or Hunk friendly. Shiro pushes chairs in that had been left in the way as he crosses the room. He keeps an eye on Keith and notices his usually sure footed friend isn't quite his steady self.
Then there's his name dragged out like that.] ...don't tell me...
[He mutters and finally reaches him. His hand goes out to steady him automatically. There are suspicions in his mind and flags raising up to sound the alarms.]
Keith. I came over to check on you before I head to bed. Everything alright?
[ there's no purpose to this thread i was just bored and wanted some keef
Bolin was also bored. There we go. ]
You know how they say that when you go blind, the rest of your senses heighten? Well, definitely true. I swear, I'm hearing so many things I couldn't before. It's like living in a whole new world.
[After his talk with Allura he allows himself to feel the tension stealing through his thoughts.
Witch.
Witch.
He hates that word and all it embodies. He takes a second to get himself under control then opens the voice channel set to private with Keith.]
Keith. Can you come back to the room? [Normally he'd ask if he interrupted him. Today, it's the last thought on his mind. He does remember to add the reason he's out of the blue asking for him.]
Haggar arrived, but she's not Haggar. Not yet. [There's a thump as he lays back on the bed. He's hitting that limit of how composed he can be about this.]
I ran into her while I was in my other shape. Allura is handling telling Lotor his mother Honvera is here.
[Even before the reason comes, Keith is already turning on heel to head back to their room. Whatever the reason behind it, he's not going to hesitate to come when Shiro calls, especially when that call comes the way it does, with the tone it does.
And as Shiro continues, his steps only quicken.
That name is enough to have him nearly in a run.] I'm on my way.
[Because he knows the wrenching in his own chest at the thought alone, can't even imagine what Shiro must be feeling.] You've seen her?
[By the time he gets the question out, he's already turning into their hallway.]
I explained to her Paladins exist ten thousand years after the originals and what is going on with the Circle. ...she. Thanked me for it.
[That is going to fuck him up for weeks. Her voice still rings in his mind as the older commanding tone that controlled his clone. The countless times she was present to his torture. He scrubs at his face.
Maybe he should take a night off from anything. But the team need to know.]
She acted so...like a person that cares. It was jarring.
Hey Keith. I sent a message to Shiro, so there's a chance you already heard this, but I wanted to message you separately just in case. [Plus, he wants an excuse to hear both their voices, to confirm that they really are back up here. He takes a breath and pushes forward.] I was wondering if you have heard from the others yet. I can't tell if my messages just aren't going through or if...if it's something else.
[He takes a breath and then adds.]
And if you haven't already...I can give you a summary of what we've discovered on the Bridge about that thing down there. I know I did a lot up here, but knowing what you guys probably encountered...we should have gone together.
[There's no hiding the relief in his voice. Keith knows the horrors that went on down below, but he has to imagine the bridge folks weren't exactly having a fun time either.]
I haven't. I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone besides you and Shiro. I'll keep trying. If they're still making their way up from below, it could be the communicators not working still.
[And he does not like it. At all.]
That'd be great. I can tell you what we encountered below, too.
[A pause and he adds,] I'm glad you stayed up here. It helped, knowing that there was someone working on figuring things out. [Even as shit went to hell in a major way.]

text; a day or so after the return to the Temple
I have something to ask you, but I do not wish to disturb you if you are resting from the aftermath of Struxta.
Text
What do you need?
[The robot planet flu hasn't hit him yet, so he's right as rain. But even if it had, he wouldn't let that stop him if Allura needs something.]
Text
I am well. And, in a strange way, glad to be back at the Temple. Regardless of its oddities.
My question concerns Lotor. Has he reached out to you at all? Either on Struxta, or upon our return here?

[That is to say, Keith got to play that game too.] It should be getting better though. Isn't it? If not, I have a friend who might be able to help.
Seeing is a little important, especially if you're, you know, used to seeing.

[ So he'll totally take Keith up on that offer of asking help from his friend later on. ]
But, y'know, it's not actually that bad. My childhood hero was born blind, and she helped save the world.
