Good... [In the morning, which means he can stay right where he is, settling in once Shiro pulls the blankets up, warm and more content than he can remember being. It's almost too much somehow, like he can't quite believe that he's actually this lucky, that this is okay for him to have. It's everything he's ever wanted, and Keith is the sort of mess that is still dealing with a small voice at the back of his mind that is waiting for the other shoe to drop.
But that doesn't stop him from settling in, sleepy himself, body tired and aching pleasantly in a way that promises he'll be sore tomorrow but he can't bring himself to mind at all. Of course, then Shiro speaks again and Keith's entire body jolts, something that the other man will no doubt feel given how wrapped up in him Keith is. He lifts his head to look at him as best he can through the lowered lights.
Is that really okay for Shiro to say to him? But he doesn't care if it's okay or not. Shiro said it, and Keith is going to hold to it greedily. It takes him a minute to find his voice, or at least to get the words out past where his heart has leaped into his throat.] I love you too. So much, and I... yeah. I do.
[Nailed it. He's mentally groaning at himself stuttering over the sentiment, but in his defense, it's the first time he's ever spoken the words. Not his fault he's clumsy with them.]
[He waits in the suddenly tense silence until Keith speaks. The tension drains away as he brushes his hair back out of his eyes.] I know you do.
I never doubted that for a second. [His faith is there as bright as always. The depths of his best friend turned lover's feelings had been a welcome surprise but he never doubted Keith loved him. He leans in and kisses the edge of his jaw. He settles back in the bed with a murmur,]
...I'm glad this bed is big enough for both of us. I'm not letting go of you tonight.
[Sorry, Shiro. Keith has a certain talent for creating tension out of absolutely nothing. But this tension was more surprise at hearing the words that he's wanted to hear, that he's been turning over and over in his own mind, not quite brave enough to get them past his lips until just here, just now -- and then only because Shiro had been brave enough first.
Keith's expression relaxes again as Shiro speaks. He's lucky, he thinks, that Shiro can read him so well -- because he loses so much in his own translation sometimes. Keith feels things with an intensity that sometimes gets the better of him, that twists up what he means and what he means to say. He tries, but it's too often a mess, too often an explosion when it ought to be peaceable.]
Like you had a choice... [Keith grins as he settles himself in and sets his head on Shiro's chest. Not bad, as pillows go.] In fact you should probably get used to it.
You say that like it's a bad thing. [He pulls the covers a little higher up and makes himself comfortable. He'd guessed right. Slowly bit by bit he's learning how to match the differences in Keith...with the differences in himself. He loves him more than he can put into words. It was good to get that out in the open.]
I'm open to whatever you want to try or do, Keith. Especially if it's me. [He grins and quirks one eyebrow before adding.] Tomorrow.
Or we'll sleep in until noon. [He doubts either of them have the energy for a second round anyway. They both have to get settled into this new situation and duty will call before any thing else. He rests a hand on Keith's back.]
Let's get some sleep. Or we'll sleep in until noon because we were up all night talking. [He wants to keep talking but they really need to sleep. Especially Keith. He's had a pretty hard day.]
[Keith is settled in, terribly comfortable, and then Shiro keeps talking and his eyes snap open. Did... did he just? He did, right? Keith's shoulders shake in a silent laugh, and he tightens his arm around him.]
Yeah well, I definitely want to do you. For the record.
[Another shake of shoulders before he shakes his head.] Tomorrow.
[He settles back in, eyes falling mostly shut almost immediately.] Though sleeping until noon doesn't exactly sound terrible... not a very persuasive threatened consequence. [But Keith gets it. They have things to do in the morning, responsibilities that will call, friends that will undoubtedly have questions -- at least when they see Keith returned.] Guess you're right though.
[Keith smiles to himself though, at little more than the thought of sleeping like this, curled into Shiro where he can hear each breath he takes, the faint echo of his heartbeat, can know that he's safe and all right for certain in the moment. And even better is the thought of opening his eyes and finding Shiro still there come tomorrow morning.] Besides, I'm looking forward to waking up with you.
Me too. I think...it will become...the favorite part of our day... [His head feels clear. It's nice. Shiro presses a kiss to the side of Keith's head and shuts his eyes at last. He wants to wake up the next day knowing Keith is home and safe.
His breathing evens out as he sinks down into sleep, his fingers tangled in Keith's hair.]
[To open his eyes and see Shiro, safe and sound and breathing. And whatever is wrong, whatever might happen, Keith is going to be around to make sure they figure it out, fix it. Maybe that's over simplifying, but he's feeling optimistic about it.
How could he not, right here, right now? So he shuts his eyes fully and exhales a soft,] Love you... [Because it bears repeating, before sleep gets a hold on him as well.]
